Kappa Tau Alpha at the University of Utah

Kappa Tau Alpha (KTA) is the national honor society that recognizes academic excellence and promotes scholarship in journalism and mass communication. Founded in 1910, KTA is the only honor society dedicated exclusively to these fields and is one of the nation’s most prestigious collegiate academic honors.

 

Eligibility

Students invited to join KTA must meet the following criteria:

  • Rank in the top 10 percent of their class (junior or senior) in journalism or mass communication.

  • Have completed at least five semesters of college coursework.

  • Have earned at least nine semester hours in professional skills courses such as newswriting, advertising, editing, or photojournalism.

  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in upper-level journalism/mass communication courses.

  • Have a strong overall GPA based on all degree-applicable coursework.

Induction into KTA is a significant academic honor that celebrates the highest level of achievement and integrity in the field of communication.
