Strategic Communication Minor
The Strategic Communication minor prepares students for careers in public relations, advertising, marketing, and event planning through hands-on learning in branding, campaign design, media strategy, and more. A minor in Strategic Communication is available only to students majoring outside the Department of Communication and is designed to complement their primary field of study with practical skills in copywriting, media buying, and campaign evaluation.
Media Studies Minor
The Media Studies minor offers students outside the Department of Communication a chance to explore how media shapes and reflects personal, social, and cultural life. Through courses on communication technology, social media, identity, and media aesthetics, students gain a deeper understanding of how individuals and communities use, adapt to, and are influenced by media in everyday contexts.
Health Communication Certificate
The Health Communication Certificate is open to students of all majors and addresses the growing need for effective communication in health care and public health settings. Drawing on courses from multiple departments, the program explores how health messages are created, shared, and understood across contexts, with topics such as doctor-patient interaction, team communication, outreach to underserved populations, and the design of impactful health materials.
Dialogue, Conflict Resolution, and Mediation Certificate
The Dialogue, Conflict Resolution, and Mediation Certificate is open to students of all majors and offers practical tools for navigating and resolving conflict in personal, professional, and community settings. Through coursework focused on the roots of conflict and strategies for resolution, students gain valuable skills in communication, negotiation, and mediation that are applicable across careers and everyday life.
