Absolute Communication is a student-run advertising and public relations agency affiliated
with the Department of Communication at the University of Utah. It is a small group
of dedicated students committed to doing professional work while gaining real-world
experience in the industry.
The Daily Utah Chronicle is an independent student newspaper published daily Monday
through Friday during Fall and Spring Semesters. The Chronicle employs more than 100
students in various part- and full-time positions throughout the year.
Permanently established in 1997 by the Board of Trustees, the Communication Institute
supports the dissemination of research and pedagogy in rhetorical, cultural, organizational,
interpersonal, health, environmental, scientific, and mediated communication practices.
Founded by John R. Park in 1869, the University of Utah’s Speech & Debate Team is
one of the oldest teams in the western United States. We have a long tradition of
competitive success in parliamentary debate and individual events. For the last six
years, the University of Utah has finished in the top 10 nationally.
Kappa Tau Alpha is a college honor society that recognizes academic excellence and
promotes scholarship in journalism and mass communication. Founded in 1910, it is the seventh oldest national honor society in the United States
and the only one dedicated exclusively to these fields.
K-Ute Radio is a student-run radio station at the University of Utah. It is located
on the 4th floor of the Union Building. You can listen online, on channel 99 in the
dorms, or on 1620AM in Salt Lake City.
The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is the foremost organization
for students interested in public relations and communications. PRSSA has served hundreds
of thousands of student members, offering educational programs, resources, scholarships,
and mentorship opportunities that prepare students for a successful career in communication.
Chapters are located on university and college campuses across the U.S., including
here at the University of Utah.
Founded in 1909 as Sigma Delta Chi, the Society of Professional Journalists is the
nation’s most broad-based journalism organization, dedicated to encouraging independent
journalism and supporting high ethical standards.
Voices of Utah, an award-winning, ongoing multimedia project of student-journalists
in the Department of Communication at the University of Utah, was created by Dr. Kimberley
Mangun and reimagined by Dr. Marcie Young-Cancio to give students an opportunity to
cover various beats and practice multimedia storytelling.
