2017 Fisher Lecture to Feature Klaus Krippendorff, Renowned Emeritus Professor from U of Penn

The 2017 B. Aubrey Fisher Memorial Lecture will feature Klaus Krippendorff, Emeritus Professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication. The 31st annual lecture will be held Thursday, Oct. 19, in LNCO 2110 at 7:30 p.m., with a short reception upstairs in the Dean's Lounge following the one-hour lecture. This event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Krippendorff will examine several theories of language and their implications for the kind of communication they respectively highlight or erase. This discussion will highlight conceptions that enable us to recognize what matters – and what creates our realities – when we speak, write, and interact with one another. He will focus on the ways conversations, discourses, and algorithms often morph into each other and confine human agency by prompting mindless submission to reality claims. His lecture will discuss ways to reverse that tendency by examining communicational causes of feeling powerless, confined, and compellingly persuaded, if not “ventriloquized.”
