2018 Communication Awards Banquet
The Department of Communication's 63rd annual Awards Banquet was held at the Little
America Hotel on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. The reception and ceremony honored distinguished
community award winners as well as student scholarship recipients.
The Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes significant contributions to the state and the Intermountain West, was awarded to:
- Gerald Brown, Utah State Refugee Coordinator
The Service to Journalism Award which recognizes significant contributions to the world of journalism, was awarded to:
- Joan O'Brien, Founder of Utah Newspaper Project
The Alumni Achievement Awards were presented to:
- Paul Smith, Former Political Reporter and Communication Director for Sen. Orrin Hatch
- Marlene Von Friederichs-Fitzwater, Executive Director/Founder, Health Communication Research Institute
- Brent Welch, Former Worldwide Chief Operating Officer, Teleperformance
The department also awarded a record amount in student scholarships to deserving undergraduates. New members of Kappa Tau Alpha, the national honor society for students in journalism and mass communication, were also recognized. See photos from the 2018 banquet below.
