Debate Places in Top 10 at National Championship

The U's John R. Park Debate Society came out on top among all Pac-12 teams at the National Parliamentary Debate Association National Championships, finishing in ninth place overall.

Department of Communication assistant professor and director of the Debate Society Michael Middleton says this year's finish was the best in over a decade and, in the last five years, a steady gain of more than 50 spots.

The tournament, held at Northern Arizona University, included more than 50 colleges and universities and more than 300 undergraduate competitors.

Senior Becca Isabell placed 12th as an individual speaker; juniors Madeline Dailey and Duncan Stewart were among the top 15 teams; and Isabell, along with her partner junior Nick Jensen, finished in the top 50 teams at the tournament.
