The University of Utah Asia Campus Selected as a Training Partner by Olympic Broadcasting Services
The University of Utah’s partnership with Olympic Broadcasting Services, which started with the Salt Lake Winter Olympics in 2002, continues with the PyeongChang Winter Olympics in 2018. University of Utah Asia Campus students will be assigned to field work at the PyeongChang Olympic Games after completing the Broadcast Training Program
June 23, 2017 – Olympic Broadcasting Services, the Host Broadcaster for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, has selected The University of Utah Asia Campus in Songdo, Incheon as one of its twelve partner universities to participate in their Broadcast Training Program.
The University of Utah Asia Campus students will participate in the training program in preparation for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Approximately 950 students from the twelve universities will go through the program, and 650 of those students will be offered a paid position to work with Olympic Broadcasting Services during the Olympic Games.
The goal of the Broadcast Training Program is to provide a hands-on look into the intricacies of the Olympic Games in media and television to the university students of the host country. The workshops held in the partner universities will give students practical experience, as students learn how one of the largest global broadcasting service operates.
Olympic Broadcasting Services, a company wholly owned by the International Olympic Committee, is chiefly responsible for providing the images and sounds of the Olympic Games as a service to all broadcast organizations who have purchased the television and radio rights to the Games. Olympic Broadcasting Services has been maintaining its partnership with The University of Utah in the U.S. since the 19th Salt Lake City Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2002. Professor Paul Rose of The University of Utah Asia Campus, who collaborated on the training program at The University of Utah Salt Lake City in 2002, is once again dedicating himself to The University of Utah Asia Campus’ hosting of the Broadcast Training Program.
Particularly, students in the new Film & Media Arts Program at The University of Utah Asia Campus will get to participate in this opportunity, and by participating in the training program, students will strengthen their competitiveness and specialization in the broadcasting field.
Olympic Broadcasting Services representative Luana Florentino said, “The University of Utah was selected as our partner, due to the quality of their communications program. We previously worked with the University of Utah when the Olympic Games came to Salt Lake City in 2002, so we see it as a continuation of our collaboration. We are delighted to partner with UAC as a Broadcast Training Centre for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.”
The Broadcast Training Program will be divided into two sessions: a workshop session to introduce a basic overview of the Olympic broadcasting system and a practical experience session for each broadcasting system function.

Meanwhile, The University of Utah Asia Campus, which opened in Songdo, Incheon in September 2014, is currently recruiting new students and transfer students for the fall semester of 2017. Students may apply online until June 30th on The University of Utah Asia Campus website.
