Remembrance Announcement: Jim Fisher, Former Adjunct Journalism Professor
We learned this week that a former member of the Department of Communication, Jim Fisher, passed away from complications due to Covid-19. Jim may have preceded some of us, so we share here a few words from two of his former colleagues so that we may remember him, his work and his life.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must report that Jim Fisher died shortly before noon today. Jim came from a wealthy family, but never took advantage of it. He was an award winning photojournalist, rodeo star, coach of the Women’s Soccer Team at the University of Missouri and long-time soccer referee. He taught photo and print journalism at Missouri, Utah, and Utah Valley universities. He was fluent in French, conversant in Navajo, and taught me how to tie a pack hitch. Jim died of complications of COVID-19 in a body under siege from MS, Parkinson’s and cancer. He stood tall through it all. I will miss him.” -James Anderson
“I'll forever remember his fortitude and positive attitude in spite of crushing health challenges. He will live in the hearts and skills of thousands of his students.” -Craig Denton
As we hear more about Jim’s passing and learn about opportunities to share in his remembrance, we will convey those with faculty, staff and emeriti.
