Department of Communication Professor Julia Corbett will present the opening keynote at the Taiwan Association of Science Communication and Education Conference on Friday, November 10. The sixth annual international conference is hosted by National Pingtung University, the Taiwan National Museum of Marine Biology, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education.

Her talk, "The Power & Promise of Citizen Science," discusses the growing practice of citizen science, which is part revolution (for the way it removes barriers between expert and amateur) and part renaissance (because individuals from all walks of life can learn and discover the world around them). The talk reviews various forms of citizen science projects, communication and retention for volunteer engagement, educational outcomes, scientists’ attitudes, and recommendations for the future.
