Dr. Lumpkins Receives Communicating Evolving Cancer Information Ideas Lab Award
Associate Professor Dr. Crystal Lumpkins participated in the Communicating Evolving Cancer Information Ideas Lab this summer, hosted by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The Lab brought together
researchers with interdisciplinary expertise to generate innovative approaches to
communicating complex and evolving cancer information.
Dr. Lumpkins was chosen for her significant research contributions at Huntsman Cancer Institute. She joined eight interdisciplinary researchers from across the country as part of Team Adaptive Uncertainty, which focused on developing strategies to address uncertainty management and its impact on both communicators and the public. The team’s proposal, which introduced a gamification-based intervention and emphasized the concept of “uncertainty efficacy,” was praised by Lab mentors and NCI organizers for its creativity and potential to advance the science of uncertainty management.
For their work, Team Adaptive Uncertainty was awarded a $15,000 prize from the NCI. The award will support continued collaboration and the development of grant proposals for future National Institute of Health funding.
The Department of Communication is proud to celebrate Dr. Lumpkins’ achievements and her dedication to advancing cancer communication research. Please join us in congratulating her on this outstanding accomplishment.
