On the Passing of Maggie Bringhurst

photo of Maggie Bringhurst

This week our Department learned of the passing of one our undergraduate students, Maggie Bringhurst. Maggie was traveling between Utah and California when she was involved in a fatal car crash.

We grieve for and with Maggie’s family, she will be missed and her absence will be felt among her peers and those who taught her.

Maggie was a Communication Major focusing on journalism. She was a talented writer for the Daily Utah Chronicle where she spent two years writing for the Opinion Desk, and she also worked with View From the U as a writer.

Much of Maggie’s work was community-oriented and focused on people and populations often overlooked or muted by the media. Some of that work can be found here.

There will be a visitation on Friday, August 12 from 6-8 pm and funeral services on Saturday, August 13 beginning at 9:45 am. Both will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 6050 Chapel Drive, Highland, UT

Although we knew her as a student, Maggie was also a compassionate and loving daughter, sister and friend to many. She was giving and generous with her time and enjoyed being outdoors and exploring nature with loved ones.

Maggie Bringhurst will be missed and greatly remembered.

For those students, staff and faculty wishing to support Maggie and her family, a GoFundMe page has been set up here. Further support is available through the University Counseling Center, the Center for Student Wellness, the Employee Assistance Program and Housing and Residential Education.
